A Resurrection-Shaped Voice: The Shepherd Who Brings You Home

1 Peter 2:25
“For you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.”
Do you know how sheep wander? They don’t wake up and say, “Today I will get lost.” They just nibble the next patch of grass. Then the next. Then the next. And pretty soon, they look up and realize they don’t know where they are.
That’s what life can feel like. Not one big, loud choice. Just a bunch of small ones. A little more worry. A little less prayer. A little more anger. A little less kindness. A little more “I can handle this myself.” And then one day you feel far from God, and you’re not even sure how you got there.
But here’s the good news: God does not roll His eyes at wandering sheep. He doesn’t cross His arms and say, “You made the mess—good luck.” No. He comes looking.
1 Peter says, “You were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.” That word guardian is a warm word. It means someone who watches over you. Someone who stays nearby. Someone who doesn’t fall asleep on the job.
Jesus is not only the Shepherd who finds you. He is the Shepherd who keeps you.
· When you feel scattered, He gathers.
· When you feel guilty, He lifts your head.
· When you feel scared, He walks with you.
· When you feel weak, He carries what you can’t.
And notice this: the verse doesn’t say you returned because you got your act together. It says you returned to the Shepherd. That’s the turning point. Not your strength, but His love. Not your perfect choices, but His steady voice calling your name.
So, if you’ve been drifting, you can come home today. Not to a lecture. Not to shame. To a Shepherd. To the Guardian of your soul.
A simple prayer is enough: “Jesus, I’m coming back. Lead me.” And He will. He always does.
Have a great day!
