When the Crowd Gets Quiet

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.
- Psalm 27:8
There are seasons in life when the crowd gets quiet. The people you looked up to are not as strong as they once seemed. A friend moves away. A leader lets you down. Someone you thought would always be there is suddenly gone. It can leave your heart feeling shaky. You may wonder, Now what? Who do I lean on? That is when this verse becomes so precious: “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”
God never meant for other people to be the main light of your life. He gives us pastors, parents, teachers, friends, and mentors, and they are gifts. Thank God for them. But they are not the sun. Jesus is. People can bless you, but they cannot hold you together. People change. People get tired. People fail. But Jesus does not. He is still steady. He is still near. He is still good.
That means your faith cannot live on borrowed fire. You cannot make it through life on somebody else’s prayers, somebody else’s Bible reading, or somebody else’s closeness to God. There comes a point where you must seek His face for yourself. Not just on Sunday. Not just when life falls apart. But in the quiet places of everyday life. In the morning, before the rush. In the car on the way to work. At the kitchen sink. In the hospital room. In the middle of a hard week. You whisper, “Lord, I need You,” and He meets you there.
This is how strong Christians are made. Strong Christians are people who keep turning their faces toward Jesus. They pray. They listen. They open the Word. They bring Him their worry, their grief, and their questions. And over time, something changes. A quiet peace settles in. A steady hope begins to grow.
You may not even notice it at first. But others will. There will be a calm about you. A kindness. A strength that does not come from you trying harder. It comes from being near Jesus. When the crowd gets quiet, seek His face. You will find that He is enough.
Have a great week!
