Voices

Updated: Dec 8, 2024

Matthew 3:1-6  In those days, John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

I think a more fitting name for Facebook would have been Voices. A billion voices fly through Facebook’s channels with a speed never before seen by humanity. People can reach out and VOICE their opinions with staggering precision and accuracy. Never before has society witnessed the tsunami of mass media flood our psyches as it does today. Never!

There are a lot of voices in the world. There are even a lot of voices in the Bible. And some of those voices are tough on us. Some are tough on us because they are malevolent, they mean us harm.

  • You are not good enough.

  • Your peers are living a better life than you.

  • You are turning out just like (worst critic) said you would.

Some voices don’t mean harm, but they are not always easy on us. John the Baptist, for instance, always pushes us to repentance. The prophets always remind us of trouble and our sin. Even some books of the Bible are vocal about end times and disaster. These voices are a little hard on us.

In this deluge of voices, where do we “tune in”? Might I suggest there is one voice above all other voices? This voice will call cadence to glean what we need from the world’s offerings. It is this voice in which we will find life.

The voice of Jesus, strong and true, will ring with a message of triumph in the season of confusion. Listen to the WORD of the LORD...

  • If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.- John 8:36

  • Therefore, there is no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. - Romans 8:1

I do not know all of the voices you are dealing with during this strange season. But I do know there is a voice calling to you. So, take some time this week to listen to the voice of Good News. Take time to hear the voice of Jesus.

Have a Great Week!

-Pastor Corey
