Settle It!

“Live peaceably with all.” That includes living peaceably with yourself. Here is a bit of Godly advice to make it happen. You must take care of the darkness, or it will take care of you. God loves us too much to let a little darkness live in our hearts.
We may try to excuse it. We may say, “It was not that bad.” “They started it.” “I will deal with it later.” “I am just not ready.” But the Holy Spirit is not fooled by our excuses. He sees the grudge we are feeding. He hears the apology we are avoiding. He knows the letter we need to write, the call we need to make, the truth we need to tell.
Jesus says, “Settle it.”
Not someday.
Today.
That may sound hard, but it is mercy. God is not trying to crush us. He is trying to free us. Sin always promises freedom, but it builds a prison. Pride locks the door. Bitterness bars the window. Selfishness keeps the key hidden in our own pocket.
And then we wonder, “Why do I feel stuck? Why is my faith dry? Why do my prayers feel heavy?”
Maybe God has already shown us the next step, and we keep stepping around it.
The Sermon on the Mount is not just something to study. It is something to obey. Jesus is not speaking only to our minds. He is speaking to our will. He comes to that deep place inside us where we know what we ought to do.
There is always an “ought” behind a moral call.
I ought to forgive.
I ought to confess.
I ought to make peace.
I ought to stop pretending.
I ought to do what God has already told me to do.
The good news is this: the moment we say yes to God, His grace begins to work in us. He does not leave us alone in the prison of our own making. He opens the door. He changes the heart. He gives courage for the hard conversation. He gives humility for the apology. He gives strength for the next right step.
So do not wait.
Write the note. Make the call. Tell the truth. Ask forgiveness. Offer forgiveness.
Settle it today.
God is not trying to take life from you.
He is trying to give it back.
Have a great week!
