"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” Hebrews 13:6

Our words are strongest when they are built on God’s words. God says, “I will never leave you.” So we can say, “The Lord is my helper.” God says, “I will never forsake you.” So we can say, “I will not be afraid.” Notice the order. God speaks first. We speak second. That matters.

Faith does not begin with our say-so. Faith begins with God’s say-so.

A child can walk into a dark room if his father says, “I am right here.” The room is still dark. The shadows are still there. The child may still feel afraid. But the father’s voice changes the room.

That is what God’s promise does.

  • He does not say, “You will never face hard things.” He says, “You will never face them alone.”

  • He does not say, “You will never feel weak.” He says, “I will be your helper.”

  • He does not say, “You will never be tempted to fear.” He says, “I will not fail you.”

So what are you dreading today?

Name it. Be honest about it. Do not pretend it is small if it feels large. But do not let dread have the final word. Let God speak first.

  • Before you say, “I cannot do this,” hear Him say, “I will never leave you.”

  • Before you say, “I am too weak,” hear Him say, “I will be your strength.”

  • Before you say, “I am afraid,” hear Him say, “I am your helper.”

Then take a deep breath of faith. Look into the darkness and recognize that you are in that room with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. You are anything but alone.

God has said it. You can believe it. You can believe it so confidently that you can boldly say

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.”
