Duct Tape Faith

Philippians 3:14
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Some days, grit feels like duct tape on a cracked heart. You’re still holding together, but barely. The calendar doesn’t care that you’re tired. The bills don’t pause. The phone keeps buzzing. And your soul whispers, “I want to quit.”
Then Paul steps in with a simple, stubborn sentence: “I press on toward the goal…” (Philippians 3:14). Not, “I stroll.” Not, “I float.” Not, “I feel inspired today.” Press on. That’s the word you use when the wind is in your face, and your legs are heavy, and you keep moving anyway.
But here’s the resurrection-shaped part: Paul isn’t pressing on to earn God’s love. He’s pressing on because Jesus already grabbed hold of him. Earlier in the chapter, Paul says Christ made him His own. That changes everything. Grit isn’t you trying to be strong enough for God. Grit is God’s life in you—resurrection life—pulling you forward when you don’t have much left.
Paul calls it “the prize,” and it’s not a shiny trophy for spiritual overachievers. It’s Jesus Himself. It’s being with Him, becoming like Him, finishing the race with your eyes on His face. And the One who walked out of a grave is not asking you to run alone. He runs with you. He steadies you. He keeps saying, “Keep going. I’m not done.”
So if today it feels like you have a limping, duct-taped heart, let it be a holy limp. If today is one small step, let it be a brave one. Press on—not because you’re tough, but because Jesus is alive. And His resurrection keeps turning “I can’t” into one more step.
Lord Jesus, when my strength runs low, lift my eyes to You. Put Your resurrection grit in my bones. Help me press on today—one faithful step at a time. Amen.
Have a great week!
