Do You Love Me?

Jesus did not ask Peter, “Do you love doing good?”
He did not ask, “Do you love helping people?”
He did not ask, “Do you love being useful?”
He asked, “Do you love me?”
That question still comes to every follower of Christ. It comes before the prayer, worship service, or act of service. Before the organizational meeting. Before the Bible study. Before the good work. Before the cause. Before the mission. Jesus comes to the heart and asks,
“Do you love me?”
Because being a Christian does not begin with work. It begins with love. We often get this backward. We think following Jesus means doing more things for Him. We count the hours. We list the tasks. We measure the programs. We point to the people helped. Those things matter, but they are not the root. They are the fruit.
The root is devotion to Jesus.
Jesus says, “Feed my sheep.” Not “win arguments.” Not “make people think just like you.” Not “build your own kingdom.” Feed them. Care for them. Help them know Me. Give them the bread of grace. Give them the water of truth. Lead them toward the Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep.
When we love Jesus personally and deeply, we can keep serving even when people disappoint us. We are not serving to be praised. We are not serving to be noticed. We are not serving to prove our worth. We are serving because He first loved us.
A life devoted to Jesus may not always be loud. It may look small, like a seed falling into the ground. Quiet. Hidden. Buried.
But Jesus knows what to do with buried seeds. He brings life out of them. He makes love grow. He changes the landscape. So hear His question today.
“Do you love me?”
And then hear His calling.
“Feed my sheep.”
Have a great week!
