Psalm 103:10-13
10 He does not deal with us according to our sins nor repay us according to our iniquities.11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;12 as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us.13 As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.
Some of us carry our sins like a backpack full of rocks. We drag yesterday into today. We replay the same scene in our mind and think, If God remembers it, I’m done.
But Psalm 103 leans close and says, “That’s not how God works.”
“He does not deal with us according to our sins.”
That means God doesn’t pull out a spreadsheet and say, “Let’s see… you owe Me.” He is not waiting for you to mess up so He can punish you. He is not keeping score like a strict coach with a whistle and a frown. Instead, He is a Father.
God’s love is not small. David says it is “as high as the heavens are above the earth.” That’s a kid's way of saying to the world, “My dad is bigger than your dad.” You can’t climb high enough to reach the top of God’s love. You can’t run far enough to outrun it.
Then comes one of the best lines in the Bible:
“As far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us.”
Think about that. North and South meet at a point. You can go far enough north that you start going south. But east and west? You can keep going east forever, and you will never bump into the west. It doesn’t end. That’s the picture.
When God forgives you, He doesn’t just cover your sin. He removes it. He doesn’t say, “I’ll forgive you, but I’ll bring it up later.” He doesn’t forgive like we sometimes do—halfway, with a little grudge left over. He takes your sin and sends it away where you can’t go get it back.
So why do we keep trying to dig it up? Maybe you’ve been punishing yourself, thinking it’s humble. But God’s mercy is not something you “pay back.” Mercy is a gift. And gifts aren’t earned. They’re received. So today, stop measuring God by your worst day. Measure Him by His best day. And when shame whispers, You’re not forgiven, answer back: East from west. That’s how far God put it.
Have a great week!
