Waiting is one of the hardest things God asks us to do.
We would rather move. Fix. Call. Explain. Push. We want to see the road ahead and know how the story will end. But sometimes God closes the door, quiets the room, and says,
“Wait.”
Waiting can feel like nothing is happening. But with God, waiting is never wasted time.
A seed waits beneath the soil. A child waits in the womb. The sun waits below the horizon. Hidden does not mean forgotten. Quiet does not mean empty. God often does His deepest work where we cannot see it.
David (the writer of this verse) knew what it was like to wait. He had been promised a throne, but he spent years running from Saul. He lived in caves while another man wore the crown. Yet David learned that God’s promises do not need our panic to come true.
“Wait for the Lord,” he said.
That does not mean sitting down and surrendering to fear. It means continuing to do the last thing God told you to do. Pray. Love your family. Tell the truth. Show up. Be kind. Stay faithful. Leave tomorrow in God’s hands.
Then David adds, “Be strong and take heart.” Why would we need strength to wait? Because waiting tests the heart. It exposes our need to control. It brings our fears to the surface. It asks us to trust God when we cannot trace Him.
But God is not absent in the waiting room. He is teaching. He is preparing. He is protecting. He may be changing the situation, or He may be changing you. Often, He is doing both.
Do not mistake God’s delay for God’s denial. He has not lost your address. He has not forgotten your prayer. He is not confused about the next step.
So do not force the door. Do not rush the answer. Do not grab the pen from God’s hand and try to finish the story yourself.
Wait for the Lord Be strong Take heart.
The God who gave the promise is still at work, even when the room is quiet.
